Summer Lovin’

The lovely and talented Khristian Howell has challenged me/you/us to make a to do list for the summer. My to do list is typically 5 miles long, but I’m going to pluck out a few bits and commit to them this summer.

  1. Finish this tutorial series.
  2. Complete the plan for a new product I’m developing (super secret! super exciting! stay tuned!)
  3. Refine some current patterns; get my sketches up for your viewing pleasure.
  4. My usual end-of-summer task: another copyright book!

She started with 5, but for now I’m starting with 4 (I know, I know…). If When I get these done, I’ll add to the list! Summer 2010, here I come!

Alluminare Design Challenge

I am pleased, honored, thrilled, and completely beside myself with excitement at having been invited to be a judge in the Alluminare Design Challenge on Homeworkshop.com. 475 delicious patterns were submitted from around the world, and the one and only Mr. Christopher Lowell has narrowed them down to ten finalists. Keep an eye on Homeworkshop.com — within the next week, voting will begin and another designer will be inducted to the World Class Designers of Alluminare.com! Good luck to all!

New Pattern: Venice

While traveling through Venice last month, I was struck by the Islamic influence on the city’s architecture. Such lovely peaks and curves, so unique to that culture.

Today, I made a pattern from the doodles I did on the train from Venice to Florence. Introducing “Venice.”

Talk to me if you’d like to use this pattern somewhere.

Elizabeth on Alluminare!

The lovely pattern, Elizabeth, is now available for purchase on Alluminare.com!

Elizabeth is a lace-inspired pattern, named for the queen herself. Dainty, but regal, she holds her head high in either large or small scale.

They just started carrying these awesome table lamps. I love the shape!

Here is Elizabeth, as custom fabric:

Elegant and sweet, I love this vaguely damask-y, lacy pattern! Always such an honor to be listed as one of Alluminare’s World Class Designers. :)

Not at all a coincidence, I sent the pattern in on the Queen’s official birthday, April 22. Happy birthday!

Fancy Pants vs. Biker Chic vs. Old West

A client asked me to work on some leather labels – oh so fun. I love tangible art! He asked me to take his current logo and either update it or create something around it that was fancy/biker/western within the established oval. I enjoyed this one a lot. :)   So here’s what I came up with during Round I. (And yes, it is marginally terrifying to show the world my proofs.)

How To Make A Pattern Out Of Your Friend’s Face

I’ve been working extrariffic-hard on a project, to the point of near brain burst, so when SparkyFirePants posted this contest today, I couldn’t resist the diversion. I’ll show you what I sent in, but let me show you the progression. :)

Here’s his original photo:

I cut him out:

I made a pattern with him:

Then I thought, well, hm, that’s sure boring. And kind of obvious. Let’s be different. And then I noticed the shapes created by the Not David parts were kind of… cool. And we have our pattern.

Wah-lah! I think it kind of looks like chandeliers hanging up-side down and right-side up.

Valentine’s Day 2010

A little pattern or two:

*Coming soon to Spoonflower

And a print:

Available as a card on Cafepress and as a print on Etsy.

I could definitely be persuaded to update the colorways on these for specific uses. Talk to me.

FTC disclosure: if you buy my stuff, I make money. :)

Pearce, the Elephant Coming Soon to Fabric!

NEW! Fabric on Spoonflower! Pearce the Elephant now available for all your quilting and pajama-making needs!

Fabric should be available the first week of February. Meanwhile, check out my other Spoonflower fabric!

New Collection: Cursive Creatures

Meet Pearce, the Elephant! He’s the first in a series of cursive-inspired animals that will find their way onto prints and fabric.

Pearce is far from your average elephant. With his delicate loops and curls, he’d much rather attend a tea party than muddy himself with the rest of the herd. A whimsical addition for a nursery or for the elephant lover in your life, Charming Pearce is sure to please.

Pearce is currently available on Etsy.
