I am Libby Unwin, an independent artist in Denver. I live with my husband, Matt, and sweet baby boy, Grant. A Phoenix native and an honorary New Yorker, I attended the University of Oklahoma and received a degree in Communication Arts in 2002. I am inspired/distracted by old architecture, Art Deco, fabrics, patterns, textures and shiny things.
I have always loved any type of art you can put on a wall: paintings, wallpaper, murals… So when I started working on surface design a couple years ago, I began to play with the idea of how best to put a pattern on a wall. To me, stencils were the perfect fit. My vision was large, sophisticated patterns that could communicate depth simply through texture and color. I love being able to work with my hands, controlling what colors and paint finishes go into the wall art I’m creating. Stencil design is an involved, creative process that winds up being a labor of love I can pass along to you for your home.
My latest and greatest project is Just A Trace: A Stencil Company, a place where you can get unique and custom stencils in several sizes.
I have had very diverse experiences in my nearly 12 years of graphic design, ranging from package design to murals to litigation graphics. I was even asked to design a TV set once. So fun!
